Wednesday, 6 February saw the launch of the Somerset – based Osna Fund charity, raising money to buy an Osna diagnostic machine for the Breast Care department at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. The evening started with a short presentation on the aims of the fund and advantages of the Osna equipment with input from Jasper Gill, Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon; Adrian Wood, a representative from Sysmex UK, Osna suppliers; and Sara Myers, Chairman of the newly formed charity.

Over 60 people attended the event at the Cosy Club in Taunton, including Somerset cricket legend, Andy Caddick; a number of local business leaders; plus trustees and friends, which culminated in committing to and planning a range of future fundraising initiatives.

Since the Osna Fund idea was first formed late in 2012, the charity has already secured funds and pledges of over £50k, well on the way to raising the £75k necessary to purchase the Osna machine. The aim is to raise the additional £25k during 2013 and to try and have the machine in place at Musgrove Park Hospital by this time next year.

After the event, Jasper Gill, commented, ‘this is a fantastic initiative which has got off to a flying start.  I look forward to being a part of future efforts to raise funds for this leading edge equipment which will ease the minds of so many Somerset ladies diagnosed with breast cancer, plus cut down the time for any additional treatment required’.
